I miss it. I used to see a live band at least every month, and dream of super-musical-stardom. Now my drumkit is sleeping, and I have bought three CD'd this year :'(
It is a sad state of affairs, but the event which brought me to the realisation was a wonderful one....
THE DARKNESS.
(and look I met Justin Hawkins!)
Too cool huh? He is totally my new style icon (despite the 80's being THE WORST era for fashion mistakes).
When I met him, he was in layered up vests, just, y'know, CHILLIN' with a little crucifix casually thrown on top. Whacking on a leather bomber, to keep with his rock and roll image, all on top of some azure blue reebok's with a yellow stripe.
I don't know about you, but I love bright tracksuits. Once, there was a guy in an two-piece purple adidas tracksuit, and he looked so flyyyy!
Unfortunately, no one attending the gig looked beautiful enough to photograph, but that might have been in comparison to the stage costumes.
I have three particular favourites (two are Justins!)
They came on, and he was in a black vest and some faded yellow patched up zebra print skinnies. Fairly standard glam rock attire, but what I really liked was the jacket! It was a white denim waistcoat with a tiger patch on the back - usually it would have been too 'cartoony' for me, but the garish thing totally worked. Only in the 80's huh?
Frankie looked pretty rockin' too. I mean, you cant really go wrong with a (w)afro but it was accented beautifully by a leopard print scarf tied around his head. It was set off against his black shirt and leather trousers which were wonderfully classic, but must have been SO hot (I was in leather and was m-e-l-t-i-n-g!)
The piece-de-resistance was the catsuit of course. (Apologies, all of my snaps were on my little camera, so they're not great)
Leather tailed, laced, with faded prison stripes?
If you're going to
Download this year, PLEASE check out The Darkness, because even if their music isn't to your taste, their costumes and showmanship definitely will be!
