Speak Easy

Ke$ha; glamourous, dangerous untouchable, feminine vibes.
'We're in the Money' from my school production of 42nd street; escapist memories .
Things are always better when they are prefixed with a 'post'. Post-feminism, post-irony, especially post-war.
Read these books:

'Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day' - Winifred Watson, 'Any Human Heart' - William Boyd.
Or if you don't like to read, they have both been translated to the medium of film, which is wonderful if you like costumes.
'Any Human Heart' I havn't watched yet, but the stills are beautiful and my Grandma said it was a good series, so I would still recommend it (you can hate on me if its awful). The book, however, is a great read. It is a chronicle of an entire life, and is totally captivating, as the majority of the book focus' on that lost period in time when glamour and entertaining were paramount. The only difficult part of the novel was the ending, which was fairly tiresome to read, but it was being narrated through the voice of a cantankerous elderly man, and the dragging narrative, I thought, reflected Logan's temprement completely.

'Miss Pettigrew' isn't as focused on character; it is a book that encapsulateds a moment - the 'day' that Miss Pettigrew lives for - fitting the whole wonderfulness of the roaring 20's into one book.
It translates perfectly to film!! (Unless you are like my brother, and prefer a heavy plot line to emotive photography, beautiful costumes and glamour nostalgia.)

Note the underwear in the last pictures!
The scene where Miss Pettigrew goes to the underwear showing was FABULOUS in the film... not so memorable in the book. The delicateness and naughtiness that Miss Lafosse requires, tantalise both the audience and Miss Pettigrew; but more than that, they make you say "I WANT!", and it's not just the panties, but the whole era, the liftstyle....

D&G create this blend of flirty nostalgia with their underwear/outerwear. The current seasons delicate lace is so ethereal it takes you somewhere else entirely, and the vintage inspiration is wonderfully reworked.
I have a 1930's dress that reminds me of this collection... just need an opportunity to wear it!

Marquees, Graveyards and Premature Superstars.

Let me introduce you to my home-sewn ball dress!
I am so proud of this baby! I was still stitching at 11am on the day of my leavers ball, and was in a mad panic because I thought I'd have to fish out something vintage, that was my grans, that didn't fit quite right, but I got it done! My inspiration... was literally changed completely when I found the skirt fabric! I knew  I wanted a blue dress, but I was going to do a short shift, with a bit of tie-dye. However, the simple maxi-pattern I used was easy to follow, and the sparkly blue marbled skirt was PERFECT! Hope you like it, would be nice to know what you guys think (aka fishing for comments right here, right now)

How much nail paint do you need?

I think we all looked beaut.

Alice and I found a graveyard at the ball, which was pretty sweet :) It was an absolutely beautiful night, the marquee looked beautiful and the Abbey was delightful, and the fireworks were so classy. I didn't even know you could get classy fireworks, but you CAN!
The only dissapointment was that people weren't really mingling, but I suppose people have got to a point where they know who they don't like so its pretty fair play.
